I'm Malindu Ruwantha Kumaradasa, but you can call me MaRK.
I recently completed my BSc. (Hons) Software Engineering (University of Plymouth, UK) degree at NSBM Green University, Sri Lanka and I am currently unemployed. I've applying for many software engineering jobs for a few months now and didn't succeed in finding a job. That is when I decided that I would start pursuing my childhood dream of making games and make my very own game. Now here I am!
I made my university final year project using Unity since I wanted to learn it so badly ever since I understood what programming was (I tried it since 2020 but only succeeded to make something in 2023). That project was about making a 3D virtual shopping where anyone anywhere with a computer and an internet connection could shop online, in a 3D space, without needing any special equipment like a VR headset. The project worked, but it wasn't a game.
About 2 months after I was finished with my studies and tired of finding a job, I started making my own version of Marvel SNAP (I love that game!). I made the game halfway through, learned a ton of new stuff on Unity, C# and game development as a whole. But after some time, I realized that the game had a bit of a higher ceiling for a beginner like me because of aspects like maintenance, managing a stable player base, hosting a server and so on.
On September 17th, I decided that I would hold the SNAP clone and make something much simpler and something I wanted to make since I was very little (this is one of two games I've always wanted to make, the other one being a 2D platformer). Therefore, I started making "Hyper Towers", a 2D tower defense game (available now on itch!).
I made Hyper Towers as a portfolio project, to showcase that I can make a playable game and to try and land a nice job in the game dev industry. It's always been my dream and I will keep making games even if I find a different job.
Thank you for visiting my itch.io page and I hope you will stick with me to see what I do in the future (hopefully, soon).
Have a wonderful day!
