Survivesmith: Alpha Release


Survivesmith is finally available on itch!

For the first time after months of development, the game is finally playable (to a lot of extent). There may still be a lot of bugs, glitches, and performance issues, but at least I can finally let you guys give it a try and give some thoughts.

I used butler for the first time to push regular updates to the game without forcing the players to download the entire thing again and again. It has been working as intended so far.

Here is a list of what is available in the game as of now, and also a list of known issues that I couldn't fix on time:

Available Features

  • Main menu with navigation to every part of the game. Two sections (Smithing and Equipment) are still under development.
  • Basic settings (master volume, BGM volume, ambiance volume, SFX volume, resolution settings, window mode) and a few in-game settings (camera zoom, UI scaling).
  • Credits screen (most of the assets used in the game are taken from the internet. I will be replacing them one by one with time).
  • Two weapons to switch between (primary: assault rifle & secondary: pistol).
  • Auto-aiming and manual aiming modes (Guns always auto-fire currently).
  • Visual feedback for most of the actions (such as reloading, recharging shield, taking damage, hitting enemies, destroying enemies, etc.).
  • Audible feedback for most of the actions (all of the above and picking power-ups, resources, button hovers, clicks, victory sound, defeat sound, etc.).
  • Forest biome: A green biome with a lot of vegetation and sunlight. It frequently rains in this biome which hinders the player's reloading and firing abilities.
  • 12 robot enemies, 5 boss enemies, and 1 biome enemy.
  • 1 enemy with active ability: Drops a timed explosive at the player.
  • Primary and secondary objectives:
    • Primary: Complete to spawn the final boss early. The final boss spawns at 10 minutes no matter what. Defeat the boss to win the game.
    • Secondary: Repeatable. Complete to unlock better upgrades for equipped weapons and modules
  • Various post-processing effects.
  • Score system (currently only shown at game end).

Known Issues

  • Returning to the main menu after a game sometimes resets the resolution setting.
  • Performance issues after a few minutes into the game.
  • Sound overlapping/clipping issues.
  • and probably many more...

With these out of the way, I'll let you try the game and give me some thoughts. This is not the final version of the game. There will be a lot more features coming in the near future. Stay tuned!
